"..share your feelings... thru the wind..."
In 2010, a Japanese gardener, Sakaki Itaru, quietly installed an unconnected telephone in his garden—not to make calls, but to continue speaking with his cousin who had passed away from cancer. He believed his words would be carried on the wind, reaching the one he missed most.
After the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami swept through his town, taking countless lives, he chose to open this deeply personal space to others. He relocated the phone to a public place where those grieving could come, speak, and find comfort in expressing what was left unsaid.
Today, thousands of visitors travel each year to experience the original Wind Phone—a simple yet profoundly moving space that offers connection, reflection, and a path toward healing.
